چکیده

This paper describes a design of genetic encoding of short score of music for Interactive Evolutionary Computation. A genome includes three types of chromosomes, rhythm, pitch and velocity. Each chromosome is a two dimensional array of sixteen beats by 23 parts. Each element for rhythm is interpreted as indicating play, rest and continuation. Elements of pitches and velocity chromosomes are used as parameters for a recursive algorithm designed to guarantee resemblance between a parent and its children. To keep an acceptable harmony, pitches of solo parts are generated a variation of the basic melody produced through the algorithm. Elements for pitches for the parts of drums and percussion are interpreted to indicates timbre but not pitch. Combining with some optional control set up by the user, it is possible to generate a rich variety of acceptable phrases and to provide a powerful guide for breeding.

SBEAT3: A Tool for Multi-part Music Composition by Simulated Breeding

This paper presents a design of support system for musical composition based on Simulated Breeding. In our system named SBEAT3, each individual in the population is a short musical section of sixteen beats including 23 parts, thirteen solos, two chords and eight percussions. The melody and rhythm are generated by a type of recursive algorithm from genetic information. By selecting favorite piece...

Neural Correlates of Boredom in Music Perception

Introduction: Music can elicit powerful emotional responses, the neural correlates of which have not been properly understood. An important aspect about the quality of any musical piece is its ability to elicit a sense of excitement in the listeners. In this study, we investigated the neural correlates of boredom evoked by music in human subjects. Methods: We used EEG recording in nine sub...

Functional Assessment of an Overexpressed Arabidopsis Purple Acid Phosphatase Gene (Atpap26) in Tobacco Plants

Background: Overexpression of known genes encoding key phosphate (Pi)-metabolizing enzymes, such as acid phosphatases (APases), is presumed to help plants with Pi availability and absorption as they are mostly exposed to suboptimal environmental conditions for this vital element. Objectives: In this study, the overexpression effect of AtPAP26, one of the m...

Aerodynamic Design Optimization Using Genetic Algorithm (RESEARCH NOTE)

An efficient formulation for the robust shape optimization of aerodynamic objects is introduced in this paper. The formulation has three essential features. First, an Euler solver based on a second-order Godunov scheme is used for the flow calculations. Second, a genetic algorithm with binary number encoding is implemented for the optimization procedure. The third ingredient of the procedure is...

MICA: A Hybrid Method for Corpus-Based Algorithmic Composition of Music Based on Genetic Algorithms, Zipf's Law, and Markov Models

An algorithm known as the Musical Imitation and Creativity Algorithm (MICA) that composes stylistic music based on a corpus of works in a given style is presented. The corpus works are digital music scores created from the widely available MIDI format. The algorithm restricts the note placement in compositions using a Markov chain model built from discrete-time representations of the corpus pie...
